According to a report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) released in December 2023, Bengaluru recorded the highest number of acid attacks against women in the country in 2022.

The city topped the list among 19 metropolitan cities, with eight women falling victim to such attacks last year. Delhi followed in second place with seven cases, and Ahmedabad ranked third with five cases.
In a related incident, the prime victim in Kadaba was enrolled in the Government PU College. Her mother is from Kerala. According to the police, as quoted by TNM, Abin, the alleged perpetrator, tried to escape but was apprehended by bystanders. The Kadaba police are currently investigating the case.
