Tension gripped Chennai airport on Thursday morning when a 45-year-old passenger from Uttar Pradesh was found with 8mm bullet shells in his shaving kit, minutes before boarding a flight to New Delhi. The discovery, made during a security check, caused concern as the airport is under heightened seven-tier security until August 20 due to Independence Day celebrations.
The shells, later confirmed to be empty, led to the passenger’s detention, and his flight ticket was cancelled. The incident delayed the scheduled 6:00 AM departure to Delhi by 20 minutes. The passenger, who was returning after arranging his son’s college admission in Chennai, claimed the bag belonged to his brother, an Indian Army officer. He was released after providing an undertaking that he would not carry such items in the future.
