Chikkaballapur Police Arrest Finance Company Employee for Staging Robbery
The Chikkaballapur police arrested a 29-year-old employee of a private finance company, Palani Muniratnam, for staging a robbery to pocket Rs. 19,000 he had collected from customers. According to the police, Muniratnam, who was addicted to online gambling and burdened with significant debts, devised the plan to repay his loans.
To execute the fake robbery, Muniratnam enlisted three friends from his hometown of Chittoor, promising them a share of the stolen money. The accused had shared his travel details with his associates, who waited for him near Gundlagurki village on August 21, after he collected the cash.
The associates, identified as Palani Chandrashekhar (29), a tiles laborer; Hari Rajamani (31), a carpenter; and Ishwar Babu (24), a wall painter, waited on their bikes. As planned, they confronted Muniratnam and his colleague, Mallesh. While Mallesh managed to escape, the trio “robbed” the cash bag and sped away.
Muniratnam later filed a complaint at the Chikkaballapur rural police station, attempting to cover up the staged incident. However, a team led by Inspector Manjunath M. became suspicious of Muniratnam’s inconsistent statements and his behavior during the alleged robbery. Upon further questioning, Muniratnam confessed to staging the robbery. The police subsequently arrested the trio and recovered the stolen cash.
According to a senior officer, Muniratnam had expected to collect more money on that day, but most customers had not paid him. All four accused have been charged with robbery and have been remanded to judicial custody.
