Belgaum: The Sixth Additional District Sessions Court in Belgaum has sentenced Anil Chandrakanta Bandekar to life imprisonment and a fine of ₹20,000 for murdering his two daughters, Anjali (8) and Ananya (4), on July 14, 2021. The accused believed that killing his children and offering his blood to the Shivalinga would help him sell his house, which he was struggling to sell.
Bandekar, a resident of Kangrali KH village, was driven by superstition to commit the heinous crime. His wife, Jaya, filed a complaint at the APMC police station, leading to the arrest and charging of the accused.
Judge HS Manjunath delivered the verdict after hearing the case, with government prosecutor Nasreen Bankapure presenting the argument. The court’s decision brings closure to the tragic incident, highlighting the devastating consequences of blind superstition.
