Kalaburagi: In a disturbing incident from Rajolla village, Chittapur taluk of Kalaburagi district, a man has been arrested for brutally murdering his mother after an argument over her leaving the village. The 34-year-old accused, Jatteppa Doddabirappa Pujari, allegedly beat his 72-year-old mother, Devakamma Doddabirappa Pujari, to death with a stick on October 19. For the past year, Jatteppa’s wife and two children had been living at her parents’ home, reportedly due to domestic abuse. Jatteppa, who often returned home drunk, regularly subjected his wife to violence, leading her to leave the family home. In her absence, Jatteppa continued living with his elderly mother, Devakamma, who had taken on the role of his caretaker, preparing meals and handling household chores.
Five days prior to the murder, Devakamma travelled to Lakshmipurwadi village, leaving Jatteppa alone. Her departure appears to have triggered frustration in her son, as he became increasingly agitated over her absence. When Devakamma returned to their home on the morning of October 19, Jatteppa was already irate and confronted her immediately.
Fatal Argument
According to Chittapur Deputy Superintendent of Police Shankaragouda Patil, a heated argument broke out between the mother and son soon after her return. Jatteppa accused his mother of neglecting him by leaving the house, complaining that no one was around to prepare food for him. His frustration over being left alone without her care escalated into a violent outburst.
During the argument, Jatteppa grabbed a stick and began hitting his mother in a fit of rage. Devakamma, terrified and injured, attempted to flee the house to escape the assault, but her son pursued her relentlessly. He continued striking her even after she exited the house, ultimately causing her death.
