Under the guidance of Lokayukta SP Nataraj MA, a successful operation led to the arrest of Inspector Mohammed Aris, 32, of the KSRP, 7th Battalion in Konaje, Mangaluru, on Wednesday. SP Nataraj reported that the case involved the inspector demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹18,000 for deputation at a police guest house.
The complainant, a constable in the same battalion, accused Mohammed Aris of demanding ₹20,000 for performing his duty, along with a monthly bribe of ₹6,000. The complainant had already paid ₹6,000 monthly, totaling ₹50,000 so far. However, due to the ill health of the complainant’s father, they were unable to pay the ₹18,000 bribe for the three months from April to June.
Inspector Mohammed Aris allegedly called the complainant daily, demanding the pending ₹18,000 bribe and threatening to change their duty if the amount was not paid. The Lokayukta team caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe.
The operation was conducted by DSP Gana P Kumar, Cheluvaraju B, and inspectors Amanulla A, Suresh Kumar, and Chandrashekar CL, along with their staff. The successful trap highlights the Lokayukta’s commitment to rooting out corruption within the police force.
