
Major Drug Bust in Uppinangady: Three Arrested with MDMA
On Friday, August 9, a significant drug enforcement operation in Uppinangady led to the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of a substantial quantity of MDMA. The arrests took place at a vehicle checkpoint set up by the Uppinangady police.
The operation, led by Sub-Inspector Avinash H, targeted an auto rickshaw with registration number KA 21 C 3003 at the Nekkiladi junction. The driver of the auto rickshaw ignored the police signal to stop, speeding away and attempting to flee on foot after abandoning the vehicle. A second individual also exited the auto in an attempt to escape but was quickly apprehended by the police.
Upon questioning, the suspects provided inconsistent statements. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered 9.36 grams of MDMA, estimated to be worth around Rs 18,720, and 15 small plastic covers. Both the auto rickshaw and the narcotics were seized by the authorities.
The detained individuals have been identified as Mohammed Nasir (24) from Kedila village, Bantwal taluk; Mohammed Asif B (21) from Enaaje Budoli, Peraje village, Bantwal taluk; and Sinan. A case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the local police station.
The successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and enforce narcotics laws in the region.
