The Mangaluru City police have launched an investigation into a reported assault on a woman in the parking lot of a restaurant in the city. The incident, which occurred on August 25, was confirmed by Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal during a press briefing.
According to the complaint filed by the victim, a group of unidentified individuals assaulted her in the parking area and exhibited indecent behavior. She reported that the assailants not only physically attacked her but also acted in a manner that was highly inappropriate and offensive. The complaint has raised concerns about the safety of women in public spaces within the city.
Commissioner Agrawal noted that the police are relying on CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspects involved in the incident. The footage is being carefully reviewed to provide a clearer picture of the events and to pinpoint those responsible for the assault and misconduct. “We are thoroughly examining the CCTV footage to ensure we apprehend the right individuals involved in this crime,” said Agrawal.
Despite the woman providing a photograph related to the incident, the police emphasized that more concrete evidence is needed to proceed with arrests. The commissioner explained that while the photograph is a significant piece of evidence, it alone does not suffice for legal action without corroborating proof from video footage or eyewitness accounts.
The police have assured the public that they are committed to resolving the case and ensuring justice for the victim. They urge anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
