A powerman from MESCOM‘s Byndoor branch, Masood, 48, has lodged a police complaint accusing a consumer, Halamberi Nagaraj, of attempting to attack him with a sickle. The incident occurred after Masood had disconnected Nagaraj’s electricity supply on September 21 due to an outstanding bill of ₹3,096.
Nagaraj later informed Masood via phone that he had cleared the bill and requested reconnection. As Masood was on his way to restore the supply around 5:30 p.m. on September 22, Nagaraj allegedly obstructed the road by breaking glass bottles and verbally abused Masood and his branch officer. In a violent turn, Nagaraj is accused of brandishing a sickle, attempting to attack Masood, and damaging his bike’s mirror, preventing him from performing his duties.
A case has been registered at the Byndoor Police Station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 132 (Assault on a public servant), Section 324(2) (causing harm with dangerous weapons), Section 352 (assault), and Section 351(2) (use of criminal force). The incident underscores the risks faced by utility workers while carrying out their duties.
