A 35-year-old Naxalite, Madkam Shankar, was arrested in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, by a joint team of security forces on Wednesday. Shankar, an active member of the Maoists’ Jagargunda area committee, was captured from a forested area between Pusbaka and Gaganpalli villages. He had a ₹2 lakh bounty and was wanted for seven cases, including attacks on police and IED blasts.
The operation involved the 210th battalion of CoBRA and local police. Over 700 Naxalites have been arrested in Bastar division this year.
