The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, known for its high rate of fatal accidents, has seen significant enforcement against speeding. According to Deccan Herald, over 89,000 vehicles were booked for overspeeding in recent months. Despite the fines issued through ANPR cameras, only 5,300 have been paid, prompting the Karnataka police to deploy staff at Mysuru’s Kanimanike Toll Gate to manually collect fines.
Karnataka’s Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Alok Kumar stated that the speed limit may be revised if the fatal accident rate improves. The Supreme Court monitoring committee has also highlighted the need for stringent measures, with recent data showing that 90% of fatal accidents in Karnataka in 2022 were due to speeding.
