Hubballi: Two suspected robbers were injured in a police shooting on Sunday while attempting to flee during a crime spot inspection, Police Commissioner N Shashikumar reported.
The suspects, Bharath and Farooq, both from Mangaluru, were taken to the outskirts of Hubballi to reconstruct a robbery scene. The incident stemmed from a November 8 case where a gang allegedly intercepted a car and looted ₹7 lakh. While at the location, the suspects reportedly assaulted three officers, including two women constables. Police opened fire in self-defense, injuring both suspects in their legs.
Investigations had led to the duo’s arrest and the recovery of a portion of the stolen money. Farooq has a criminal record with over 17 cases across multiple states, while Bharath is similarly implicated in several police stations within Karnataka.
The injured suspects are currently receiving treatment at Hubballi KIMS Hospital. Commissioner Shashikumar emphasized that strict measures will continue to ensure public safety and hold habitual offenders accountable.
