Udupi: In a significant development in the ongoing investigation of the rape and kidnap case in Karkala, Udupi district, it has been confirmed that the blood samples of the survivor tested positive for narcotics. Udupi Superintendent of Police Dr Arun K made the announcement during a press briefing on Sunday, revealing new details that may play a crucial role in the investigation.
During the interrogation of Altaf, the prime suspect currently in police custody, he alleged that the survivor had consumed a “powder” from a packet found in the car, which has since been seized by the police. The nature of this “powder” is still under investigation. It has been sent to the forensic science laboratory (FSL) to identify the specific type of drug and to compare it with the substances found in the survivor’s blood samples.
A separate case has been registered at the Karkala town police station under Sections 8(c) and 22(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, as well as Section 3(5) of the BNS, to further investigate the source and procurement of the narcotics involved in the incident.
The survivor has yet to provide her statement before the magistrate. Udupi SP Dr Arun K noted that she is expected to do so in the next few days, once she is medically fit.
It was also confirmed that the blood samples of the prime accused, Altaf, and the second accused, Xavier Richard Quadros, who allegedly supplied the beer bottle, tested negative for drugs. This aspect of the investigation raises further questions about the circumstances under which the survivor was exposed to narcotics.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are keen on determining how the drugs came into the possession of the accused and whether there is a larger network involved. The case has attracted significant attention, with the police working diligently to uncover all details surrounding the crime.
