In a shocking incident during Diwali festivities, a 40-year-old man and his teenage nephew were killed, while the man’s 10-year-old son sustained injuries when two armed assailants opened fire outside their residence in Shahdara, northeast Delhi, on Thursday evening.

The victims, identified as Akash Sharma, his nephew Rishabh Sharma, and son Krish Sharma, were celebrating the festival around 8 PM when the attack occurred. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants approached on a scooter, initially showing respect by touching Akash’s feet before launching the attack.

A disturbing video captured the moment when Akash and Rishabh, both dressed in yellow kurtas, were preparing to light firecrackers. As Akash attempted to retreat into his home, one of the attackers dismounted and shot him. Rishabh was also hit while trying to intervene.

They were quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where Akash and Rishabh were pronounced dead. Krish is currently receiving medical treatment. Police received a call around 8:30 PM reporting the shooting and arrived to find blood at the scene. DCP Shahdara Prashant Gautam stated that five rounds were fired during the incident.

Akash’s wife revealed that the family knew the attackers and had been embroiled in a long-standing land dispute with them. His brother, Yogesh, alleged that their family had been wrongfully implicated after the assailants previously fired shots at their home but filed a case against them instead. The police are currently investigating the matter further, suspecting personal enmity to be at the root of the violence.
