Truck Driver Shoots Youth in Mandya Over Old Rivalry
Mandya: A truck driver shot at a youth in Pandavapura on Sunday morning due to an ongoing feud. The incident occurred around 8 AM at the village circle, where the accused, identified as 35-year-old Shivaraju from Shambhuvinahalli village, fired at 25-year-old Manju. Fortunately, the bullet grazed Manju’s head, resulting in only minor injuries. Local residents promptly rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
After the shooting, Shivaraju attempted to flee the scene, discarding the firearm. However, locals apprehended him and tied him to a tree until police arrived. The authorities later arrested Shivaraju, recovering the revolver and bullets he had reportedly purchased in Mumbai for ₹3 lakh.
Police sources indicate that the motive behind the shooting stemmed from an illicit relationship, with Shivaraju planning to kill Manju for the past six months. He had returned to the village for the Dasara festival and instigated a fight with Manju before the shooting. Notably, this was not the first altercation between the two; three years prior, Shivaraju had attacked Manju over the same issue, but it was resolved through a village compromise. Following that incident, Shivaraju had moved to Mumbai to work as a truck driver.
Mandya SP Mallikarjun Baladandi and other senior police officers visited the scene to assess the situation and gather further details.
