Bantwal: On October 29, a crime team led by Vittal Police Station Inspector H.E. Nagaraj arrested two individuals in connection with thefts from a house and an anganwadi at Maani Junction in Maani village. The accused, identified as Mohammad Riaz Hasanabba (38) from Dharmanagar, Boliyar village, and Mohammad Intiyaz (38) from Halekote, Ullal taluk, were apprehended following an investigation into several theft cases within the Vittal police jurisdiction.
During interrogation, both suspects confessed to their involvement in multiple house thefts in the Mittur and Kodaje areas and to stealing from a school and an anganwadi under the Puttur City Police Station jurisdiction. The police recovered stolen items valued at approximately Rs 1.35 lakh, including gas cylinders and other household goods, along with an autorickshaw worth Rs 1.5 lakh that was used in the commission of the thefts. The total estimated value of the recovered items is around Rs 2.85 lakh.
Police reports indicate that the primary suspect, Mohammad Riaz Hasanabba, has a criminal record, with theft cases registered against him at Kumble Police Station in Kerala, as well as Mangaluru City and Konaje Police Stations.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Dakshina Kannada District Superintendent of Police Yathish N. IPS and Additional Superintendent of Police Rajendra D.S. The investigation team included Bantwal Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police S. Vijay Prasad and other officers, showcasing a coordinated effort to tackle local crime.
