Bengaluru police have apprehended two brothers, Vidyananda Sahani (32) and Premkumar (42), from Bihar for alleged illegal possession of firearms and ammunition during a routine vehicle check. The arrests occurred on November 20 near the Nice Road bridge on Koppa-Begur Road.
The suspects were stopped for failing to provide documents for their motorcycle. When questioned about a bag in their possession, they attempted to flee but were swiftly detained. Upon inspection, the bag contained two country-made pistols and four live rounds, collectively valued at ₹5 lakh. The motorcycle was also seized.
Commissioner of Police B Dayananda revealed that Premkumar, a plumber, has been living in Bengaluru for 15 years, while Vidyananda relocated to the city two years ago. Vidyananda has a criminal record, with two cases of illegal firearms possession and robbery registered in Bihar.
During interrogation, the duo admitted to sourcing the weapons from Bihar and smuggling them into Bengaluru. The court has remanded the accused to five days of police custody as investigations continue. Authorities are now delving deeper into their network to curb the trafficking of illegal firearms into the city.
