In a shocking incident, a man from Bengaluru fell victim to a scam, losing ₹95,000 after clicking on a link on a fake portal while attempting to obtain an HSRP registration number.
The 42-year-old individual had initially booked the HSRP number online through the website ‘BookMyHSRP.net’ on July 9. Subsequently, on July 16, the complainant received a message from an unknown person claiming that their address was incorrect and, as a result, the HSRP number remained in storage. The message instructed the complainant to click on the provided link and fill in their complete address.
Trusting this message, the victim clicked on the link and entered their address details. To their dismay, they discovered they had fallen prey to fraud when ₹95,857 was siphoned off from their account, with two separate transactions of ₹54,773.97 and ₹41,080.48 made from their credit card.
Bagalur police station has registered an FIR against the unknown perpetrator and initiated an investigation into this reprehensible act. The incident serves as another reminder for individuals to exercise caution while navigating online portals and interacting with unknown entities to avoid falling victim to cybercrimes.
