Dakshina Kannada Police Intensify Cybercrime Awareness and Prevention Efforts
The Dakshina Kannada district police are stepping up their fight against the rising tide of cybercrimes. SP Yathish N expressed concern over the increasing number of educated individuals and professionals falling victim to these crimes. To tackle this, the police have launched enhanced awareness campaigns through social media, sharing short videos on cybercrime prevention. Additionally, Deputy Superintendents (DSPs) and inspectors are visiting schools and colleges to educate students about cyber threats, aiming to extend this knowledge to their families as well.
To reach a broader audience, the department plans to organize corner meetings in markets and crowded areas after the monsoon. These sessions will feature video screenings that illustrate various cyber fraud tactics used by criminals. SP Yathish highlighted the rapid evolution of cybercrimes as a significant challenge, noting that three individuals, including a student, recently lost around Rs 12 lakh in separate incidents. Common scams include stock market frauds, job scams, online loan schemes, and phishing attacks.
SP Yathish emphasized the importance of reporting cyber financial frauds promptly to the National Helpline number 1930, which can help block transferred money and recover lost funds. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse, citing a recent seizure of 10g of MDMA in Uppinangady, with further awareness campaigns being conducted in schools and colleges.
