Davangere: In a tragic incident, a mother and her son lost their lives in a house fire triggered by an electrical short circuit in Kayipete early Tuesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Vimala (75) and her son Kumar (35), both residents of the locality. The fire broke out around 4 am at a residence belonging to BJP leader H M Rudramuniswamy, police said.
According to Basavanagar police, a total of six people were inside the house at the time. While four managed to escape, Vimala and Kumar were trapped inside due to thick smoke and could not make it out in time.
Firefighters and emergency responders arrived promptly and pulled the trapped duo from the blaze. Both were rushed to the District General Hospital, but succumbed to their injuries during treatment, police confirmed.
The remaining four injured family members are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, though preliminary findings point to a short circuit as the trigger.
This incident adds to a spate of recent fire-related tragedies in Karnataka, prompting fresh concerns over electrical safety in residential buildings.
