Davanagere: A 56-year-old pharmacist was taken into custody on Thursday evening for allegedly recording inappropriate videos and sharing them through social media.
The accused, Amjad Shafi, who runs a pharmacy in Channagiri town, was found with over 60 objectionable videos on his phone. Authorities suspect he had been engaging in these activities for over a decade.
Shafi was arrested after a district police officer came across a suspicious clip in a private WhatsApp group and reported it. Investigations revealed that he had secretly filmed women and girls visiting his shop, as well as individuals in private settings and public transport.
After one of his videos surfaced online, Shafi went into hiding but was soon tracked down. He has been charged under multiple legal provisions for unauthorized recordings, misuse of digital content, and privacy violations.
Davanagere SP Uma Prashanth confirmed his arrest, emphasizing that storing or circulating such content is a punishable offense. She assured that strict action would be taken against those involved in similar cases.
