Dharwad city is facing serious health hazards as dust pollution from ongoing roadworks is causing severe skin allergies and breathing issues. Delayed road repairs, worsened by recent rains and dry weather, have led to the formation of potholes that collect dust, which is then stirred up by passing vehicles. This has severely impacted visibility and air quality in the area.
Key roads, including stretches from Uday Hostel Circle to the Railway Station and various others, remain half-completed due to insufficient funding. Residents are forced to keep their windows closed to avoid dust, and complaints of respiratory problems, especially among children and elderly individuals, have increased. Many businesses, particularly eateries, are struggling as dust settles on food and customers avoid the area.
Despite numerous complaints, no elected representatives or officials have addressed the issue. When residents of Malmaddi requested road repairs, they were told that the roads would eventually be upgraded to cement concrete but no immediate action would be taken. The residents have called for urgent repairs, accountability from contractors, and more attention from authorities to resolve the dust problem and protect public health.
