The Goa Cyber Crime Police have arrested a 34-year-old man from Dharwad for allegedly running an online harassment and extortion campaign against his former girlfriend by misusing her private photographs and videos.
Survivor targeted with fake accounts
Police identified the accused as Kuber, who allegedly saved the woman’s intimate content during their relationship. After their breakup, he is said to have used the material to shame, threaten and extort her.
The survivor, a Nepalese national living in Caranzalem, approached the police after continuous harassment. Officers said the accused operated through multiple WhatsApp numbers and fake identities, creating forged Instagram and Facebook profiles to circulate her private content among people she knew.
Extortion through UPI transfers
Investigators found that Kuber demanded sexual favours and forced the survivor to transfer ₹35,000 via UPI into two bank accounts linked to him.
Based on technical surveillance, Cyber Crime teams traced him to Dharwad and arrested him. Police said he confessed, claiming he acted out of “revenge”.
Investigation continues
Authorities said further digital evidence is being examined and more charges may follow.
