In a new twist to the case of a man found chained at a dhaba on the outskirts of Dharwad, the district police have arrested four individuals in connection with the incident. Initially, it was believed that the man had mental health issues, but investigations have revealed that the case stemmed from a financial dispute.

The man, identified as Kiran, had been working at the dhaba for several years after his father, Arunkumar Yadav, borrowed Rs 1 lakh from the dhaba owner for his daughter’s marriage. In exchange, Arunkumar promised that both he and his son would work at the dhaba. However, Kiran reportedly avoided working at the dhaba and took up jobs elsewhere, prompting the dhaba owner, Mohamad Aburkar Nayak, to chain him for the past 20 days.

On Friday, senior police officers, including Superintendent of Police (SP) Gopal Bykod, visited the scene for a preliminary inquiry. According to the SP, the father of the rescued man and others had provided conflicting stories, leading to further investigation, which uncovered the true motive behind the chaining.

The police have arrested four individuals in connection with the case: Mohamad Aburkar Nayak (dhaba owner), Taifur Shamin Ahmed (relative of the owner), manager Manjunath Uppar, and Shanoor Babajan. They are set to be produced before a court.
