A teacher from a private high school in Dharwad has been accused of cheating a Class 10 student by allegedly collecting nearly 80 grams of gold ornaments on the pretext of helping him in the SSLC examination.
The accused is a teacher at KE Board’s Vidyaranya High School. According to a complaint filed by the student’s parents, the teacher claimed he was facing financial difficulties and persuaded the student to bring money or gold ornaments from home, assuring that the valuables would be returned later.
Gold allegedly taken under false promise
It is alleged that the student brought around 80 grams of gold ornaments from his house and handed them over to the teacher. The matter came to light when the student’s parents noticed that the ornaments were missing and questioned their child.
Following the incident, the student reportedly became mentally distressed, causing concern within the family.
Teacher denies receiving gold
The teacher has denied the allegations of taking gold ornaments. However, he admitted to having taken a small amount of money from the student, stating that it was not linked to any promise regarding examination assistance.
A case has been registered at the Dharwad Town Police Station, and an investigation is underway. Police officials are expected to record statements from the student, parents and school authorities as part of the inquiry.
