DNB Resident Doctors in Chitradurga Face Harassment Over Extra Duties
Chitradurga: Diplomate National Board (DNB) resident doctors at the District Hospital in Chitradurga, Karnataka, are reportedly being harassed by hospital consultants. The consultants are allegedly threatening to withhold stipends from residents who refuse to take on duties beyond their curriculum requirements.
The United Doctors’ Front Association (UDFA) highlighted the issue on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). DNB residents have complained of being pressured to perform Casualty Medical Officer (CMO) duties, which are not part of their academic curriculum and interfere with their primary departmental responsibilities.
In their complaint to the National Board of Exams for Medical Sciences (NBEMS), the doctors revealed that they are overworked and often left without proper support or supervision to handle critical cases. They also detailed being forced into duties unrelated to their training, including casualty, jail, and convoy duties. They expressed concerns about being assigned critical cases without adequate guidance or resources, which compromises both patient safety and their education.
The residents further reported facing threats after lodging complaints about the situation.
