In a tragic incident in Bengaluru’s Kengeri area on Saturday evening, a drunk driver in a Mercedes-Benz struck and killed 30-year-old Sandhya A S. The accident occurred around 6:45 PM outside the Kengeri TTMC on the busy Mysuru Road. The driver, identified as 20-year-old Dhanush, registered a blood alcohol content of 177 mg/100 ml—nearly six times the legal limit of 30 mg/100 ml. A forensic report is pending.

Following the incident, Kengeri traffic police arrested Dhanush, the son of private bus operator Parameshwar, on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. He was presented in court on Sunday and remanded to judicial custody.

Eyewitness Puneeth, 26, who was waiting for a bus, reported the incident to the police. He stated that the speeding vehicle, registration number KA 01 MZ 9903, hit Sandhya as she crossed the road before colliding with a biker, Syed Arbaz, 23. While Sandhya suffered severe injuries, Syed sustained minor ones. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Sandhya was pronounced dead on arrival. Reports indicate that Dhanush attempted to flee but was apprehended by bystanders, who then realized he was intoxicated.

Sandhya, a married woman and financial manager at Deepa Fashion in Kengeri, was commuting to work that evening. Her family, who were informed through her Aadhaar card, expressed outrage over the police’s slow response in filing a complaint, accusing them of shielding the suspect.
