Mangaluru: St Aloysius University successfully hosted the Aloysian Run 2026, witnessing an overwhelming response from the public and reaffirming its commitment to promoting fitness, community participation, and healthy living. The mega fitness event saw enthusiastic participation from people of all age groups, transforming the early morning hours into a vibrant celebration of health, unity, and collective energy.
The event was professionally organised by Sports Reconnect in collaboration with ZEMO, ensuring meticulous planning and smooth execution throughout the programme.
Thousands participate across race categories
The day began at 5.15 a.m. with an energetic Zumba warm-up session, which engaged nearly 6,700 participants and set an enthusiastic tone for the event. The 10 km run was flagged off at 5.45 a.m., drawing around 1,200 runners. This was followed by the 5 km run at 6.00 a.m., which saw the participation of nearly 1,500 runners.
The highest turnout was recorded in the 3 km run, flagged off at 6.30 a.m., with approximately 4,000 participants, including families, students, senior citizens, and first-time runners, reflecting the inclusive spirit of the Aloysian Run.
Dignitaries flag off the run
The flag-off ceremonies were conducted by Rev. Fr Melwin Pinto SJ, Rector; Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, Vice Chancellor; and Dr Ronald Nazareth, Registrar of St Aloysius University, along with other distinguished dignitaries. Their presence provided encouragement and added significance to the event.
Smooth conduct and celebrations
All race categories concluded smoothly by 7.30 a.m., followed by a Zumba cool-down session. Breakfast and refreshments were served to all participants. Every runner received a medal, while prizes were awarded to the top three winners in the 10 km timed and 5 km timed categories across various age groups.
The event was widely appreciated for its organisation, safety measures, and festive atmosphere.
Support from multiple stakeholders
The organisers expressed heartfelt gratitude to St Aloysius University for hosting the event and for its strong institutional support. Special appreciation was extended to the Rector, Vice Chancellor, and Registrar for their continuous encouragement and leadership.
The professional execution by Sports Reconnect and ZEMO was lauded, while the Mangaluru City Police, traffic authorities, and security personnel were thanked for ensuring safety and smooth traffic regulation. Medical teams, ambulance services, and physiotherapists were acknowledged for their readiness and prompt assistance.
Special thanks were also conveyed to the NCC, NSS, Sports Core Team members, volunteers, and student coordinators, whose dedication and teamwork ensured the seamless conduct of the event.
