Mangaluru: St Aloysius College Higher Primary School,  in collaboration with Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research (NUCSER) Celebrates World Food Safety Day 2024

Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research (NUCSER) celebrated World Food Safety Day 2024 at St Aloysius College Higher Primary School in Mangalore on 7 June.

The event began with a warm welcome from Headmistress Jositta Noronha, who introduced the team to the eager students.

The highlight of the celebration was an intellectually stimulating quiz competition for students of classes 6 and 7.

The quiz brought together six enthusiastic groups, each consisting of two members, who demonstrated their knowledge and teamwork skills.

The competition comprised five rounds, including general knowledge about nutrition content in food, food brands, processed food and pasteurization, featuring multiple-choice questions, fill-in-the-blanks, picture identification and rapid-fire rounds.

Conducted with fair rules and time limits, the quiz maintained a competitive yet friendly atmosphere.

After an intense battle of wits, first place was secured by the team named Vitamin C, second place went to Vitamin D, and third place was also bagged by another team named Vitamin E.

The winners received cash prizes from the Nitte group, celebrating their knowledge and encouraging teamwork and camaraderie among the participants.

Dr Mackwin D’Mello, Head of the Department of Public Health at KSHEMA, Nitte DU; Dr Iddya Karunasagar, Advisor for Research and Patents at Nitte DU; Dr Anirban Chakraborty, Director of NUCSER, Nitte DU; and Dr Indrani Karunasagar, Director of Projects and DST-TEC at Nitte DU, engaged with the children, discussing the importance of food safety and raising awareness on the topic.

Padmanabh Rao thanked the organisers of the programme on behalf of the Management, Staff and Students of St Aloysius College Higher Primary School.

The event was a resounding success, highlighting the importance of food safety education and fostering a spirit of curiosity and learning among young minds.
