The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a revised assessment scheme for Class 10 students in the Middle East region after cancelling remaining board examinations due to security concerns.

The decision followed escalating tensions in West Asia involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, which led to the suspension of exams across countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, and Iran.

Average-based evaluation method

CBSE has confirmed that results will be calculated based on the exams students have already appeared for. Marks for missed subjects will be derived using an average-based formula.

Students who completed all exams will be assessed normally, while others will have scores calculated based on their best-performing subjects.

How marks will be calculated

  • Students who appeared in 4 exams: Average of best 3 subjects used
  • Students who appeared in 3 exams: Average of best 2 subjects applied
  • Students who appeared in 2 exams: Average of both subjects considered

The board stated that internal assessment marks submitted by schools will also be included in the final evaluation.

Special provisions for students

CBSE has clarified that private candidates and compartment students will be evaluated using similar criteria. Students who had shifted exam centres to other countries will be assessed based on the exams they completed.

The board also noted that while results under this scheme will be final, students will have an opportunity to improve their scores in the second board examination cycle.

Awaiting Class 12 decision

While this announcement provides clarity for Class 10 students, the evaluation framework for Class 12 students in the region is yet to be released.

CBSE stated that results for affected students will be declared along with the regular Class 10 results, although the exact date is yet to be announced.
