New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that it will automatically refund excess charges deducted from Class 12 students during the post-result application process after technical glitches affected scanned-copy requests on May 21 and 22, 2026.

The board issued the clarification after several students and parents reported payment-related problems while applying online for scanned copies of evaluated answer sheets following the declaration of the Class 12 board examination results.

According to CBSE, system errors during the application process led to incorrect fee deductions in certain cases. While some candidates were reportedly charged more than the prescribed amount, others paid less than the required fee because of the technical issue.

CBSE assures automatic refunds

In its official notice, CBSE confirmed that students who were charged extra money during the application process would receive refunds automatically.

The board stated that the excess amount deducted would be credited back to the same payment method used during the original transaction.

“At the same time, candidates whose applications reflected lower fee deductions will be informed separately regarding payment of the balance amount, if required,” the board said in its notice.

The clarification comes as relief for students and parents who were concerned about unexpected payment deductions and uncertainty surrounding their application status.

Applications remain valid despite payment issues

CBSE also assured students that all scanned-copy requests submitted during the affected period would remain valid despite the technical problems.

The board clarified that students would not need to submit fresh applications or repeat the process due to payment discrepancies.

According to the notice, scanned copies of evaluated answer books will still be provided to all affected candidates once the payment-related corrections are completed.

This assurance is expected to ease concerns among students who feared that their applications might have been cancelled or rejected because of the payment errors.

Students reported confusion after result declaration

The issue surfaced shortly after CBSE declared the Class 12 board examination results for 2026, when many students began applying online for post-result services.

Several candidates and parents reportedly complained about irregular payment deductions while requesting scanned copies of answer sheets through the official portal.

The glitches led to confusion regarding successful registration, fee status and whether students would need to apply again.

CBSE’s latest clarification is aimed at addressing these concerns and ensuring that students are not affected by technical errors beyond their control.

Post-result process explained

Every year, CBSE allows students to apply for various post-result services after board examination results are declared.

These services include obtaining scanned copies of evaluated answer books, verification of marks and re-evaluation of answers.

The process is intended to help students review their evaluated responses and seek corrections if they identify discrepancies in marking or calculation.

The scanned-copy facility is often the first step for students considering further verification or re-evaluation requests.

Board advises students to wait for further communication

CBSE has advised students and parents to take note of the official update and wait for further communication in cases where additional payment may be required.

The board indicated that candidates affected by lower fee deductions would be contacted separately regarding any balance amount that needs to be paid.

Students have also been urged to monitor official CBSE communication channels for future updates related to the post-result process.

Conclusion

CBSE’s clarification regarding the technical glitch during Class 12 post-result applications is expected to provide relief to thousands of students and parents affected by payment discrepancies. The board has assured that all applications remain valid and that excess deductions will be refunded automatically without requiring students to reapply.
