Chhattisgarh: In a major initiative aimed at reducing the academic pressure on young students, eight government schools in Balrampur’s Chandra Nagar area have implemented a ‘bagless’ learning model. This move, backed by the State Education Department, allows students to carry only a pen and copy, with their textbooks split into two sets – one for school and one for home.
The headmaster of the school explained that the program eases the burden on students by providing two sets of books, making it unnecessary for them to carry heavy bags. This initiative has been in place since the pandemic and emphasizes experiential learning alongside extracurricular activities. Additionally, sewing machines have been provided under vocational education, benefiting the female students.
A student shared their thoughts, stating, “I now only bring one book to school, which makes it easier to study without carrying a heavy bag.” The school’s ‘book corner’ holds new books supplied by the administration, while old ones are redistributed, ensuring that learning resources are available without excess weight.
The program has sparked happiness among students, offering them a more balanced and engaging educational experience. The education department plans to extend this model to other schools in the district.
In related news, the Chhattisgarh government signed an MoU with the National Stock Exchange (NSE) to implement a skill-building program aimed at enhancing employability in the banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) sector. This initiative aligns with the goals of the New Education Policy and the 2024 Union Budget.
