College of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad Celebrates 75 Years with Amrut Mahotsav

Dharwad: The College of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, under the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), will commemorate its 75th anniversary with the Amrut Mahotsav on January 16 and 17. The event will be inaugurated by Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar at 11 AM on January 16 at the Farmers’ Knowledge Centre on the UAS campus.

Special guests for the occasion include Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, Agriculture Minister N. Chaluvarayaswamy, and District Minister Santosh Lad. The event will also feature an alumni meet and various cultural programmes across both days.

UAS Vice-Chancellor Professor PL Patil highlighted the college’s rich history, starting its journey on May 22, 1947, at the Hebballi Agricultural Research Station. Initially focused on cotton research, the college introduced the master’s degree program in agricultural sciences in 1950. The college’s main building was officially inaugurated by the then Maharaja of Mysore, Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, in 1951. Over the years, the institution evolved under Karnatak University, Agricultural University, Bangalore, and eventually became part of UAS, Dharwad in 1986.

Currently, the college offers master’s degree programs in 16 disciplines and Ph.D. degrees in 13 streams. Its alumni are excelling in fields such as civil service, police, revenue, forest service, and various ministries.
