Mangaluru: The government of India has an ongoing scheme of reservation of seats in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy courses in AICTE approved Technical Institutions across the country, for students belonging to 8 North East States (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura) and 5 Union Territories (Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Ladakh).
Considering the lack of enough institutions offering professional courses in these states and union territories, the Government of India is implementing this program.
In order to have maximum possible participation of eligible students with utmost transparency, the Ministry of Education has taken a decision of conducting seat allotment on such seats through a Centralized Seat Allotment Board (CSAB) for North Eastern States and Union Territories (NEUT) for 2024.
The Government of India has entrusted National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Surathkal to carry out “Online Counselling” to all the NE states and UTs under the chairmanship of Director, NITK Surathkal.
CSAB NEUT-2024 will make allotment of seats to the candidates on the basis of their JEE (Main) – 2024 scores to the first year of Engineering/ Technology and Architecture courses.
Allotment for pharmacy will be on the basis of aggregate percentage of marks obtained in class XII.
It is important to note that, CSAB NEUT-2024 will make allotment of seats (Engineering, Architecture and Pharmacy) to only those candidates who belong to the above-mentioned north eastern states and union territories.
About 1,000 seats are available across AICTE approved Institutes across India for CSAB NEUT-2024 counselling.
Reservation of seats for different categories (EWS/OBC-NCL/ SC/ST/PwD) is as per the rules of each individual state & Union Territories.
All candidates with 45 per cent (GEN/EWS/OBC-NCL) or 40 per cent (SC/ST/PwD) in class XII (or equivalent) examination are eligible to participate in the counselling process.
For Architecture, the candidate should have passed 10+2 examination with at least 50 per cent aggregate marks (https://csab.nic.in). CSAB NEUT-2024 will conduct “two-rounds” of seat allotment.
The candidates can start registration from 17 to 24 June, choose and prioritize the courses of their choice (choice-filling) online from June 18 and lock their choices by 01 July 2024.
The first round of allotment will be done on 8 July 2024. The second round seat allotment will happen on 22 July 2024.
It is followed by a “spot round”, which will be conducted by the respective “Directorate of Technical Education (DTEs)” of all the participating North Eastern States/ UTs and NERIST Itanagar.
The Director of NITK Surathkal, who is also the Chairman of CSAB-2024 has advised the parents to make full use of this facility and help their wards during these critical moments of the counselling process, so that informed and confident decisions can be taken by their wards, without any anxiety.
The candidates and their parents are requested to frequently visit the CSAB-2024 website for updates (https://csab.nic.in).
