Prominent colleges in Dakshina Kannada, known for their undergraduate programs in humanities, finance, and business, are facing a significant drop in campus recruitment over the past two academic years. These institutions, once highly sought after by companies eager to hire fresh graduates, are now seeing a notable reduction in corporate visits and job offers.

Aruna P. Kamath, Principal of SDM College of Business Management in Mangaluru, noted that while companies still visit the campus, the number of students recruited has decreased. According to feedback from employers, some students fail to join after being hired, while others lack the necessary skills to secure job offers. Additionally, many talented students are opting for higher studies, further contributing to the decline in recruitment. Kamath emphasized that this issue is not due to a recession or sluggish market conditions.

Similarly, Principal Sr. Venessa of St Agnes College, Mangaluru, reported that despite an increase in the number of visiting companies, the actual job offers remain low. Fresh graduates like Natania and Natasha, who completed their commerce degrees, expressed disappointment as only two well-known companies visited their campus, hiring fewer than ten candidates in total. They are now actively searching for job opportunities outside the campus recruitment drives.

This downturn in campus placements has left many students uncertain about their future career paths, as the traditional routes to employment have become increasingly challenging.
