Dr R Rangamanju from Bengaluru has emerged as the Karnataka state topper in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024, securing an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 24. A doctor by qualification and son of late IPS officer R Ramesh, Rangamanju cracked the exam in his sixth attempt, attributing his success to perseverance, family support, and self-study.
“My father, who passed away while in service, was my biggest inspiration,” he told Deccan Herald. A proud alumnus of National Public School, Rajajinagar, and Bengaluru Medical College, Rangamanju also credited his mother and former biology teacher—now the principal of NPS—for their encouragement.
Notably, Rangamanju cleared both prelims and mains without coaching, choosing anthropology as his optional subject. He prepared with friends through group studies and only sought guidance from a private academy for the interview stage.
This year, over 30 candidates from Karnataka cleared the UPSC exam. Other notable ranks include Dr Anupriya Sakya (AIR 120) and Dr Dayanand (AIR 615), former president of the Karnataka Association of Resident Doctors. Nationwide, 1,009 candidates cleared the prestigious exam.
