New Delhi: Delhi University has introduced a new initiative titled “Coffee with Vice-Chancellor” to encourage direct interaction between students and the university administration.

The inaugural session was held at the Vice-Chancellor’s office, where Yogesh Singh engaged with a group of students from Miranda House.

Focus on open communication

The initiative aims to create a platform where students can openly share their ideas, concerns and suggestions with university leadership.

Officials said more such sessions are planned in the coming days to strengthen engagement and transparency within the institution.

Advice on artificial intelligence

During the interaction, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged students to embrace emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence.

“Make AI your assistant, not your master,” Singh said, urging students to leverage technological advancements wisely rather than becoming overly dependent on them.

He highlighted that while new technologies often raise concerns, they also offer immense opportunities if used effectively.

Emphasis on holistic education

Responding to queries on Value Addition Courses (VACs) and Skill Enhancement Courses (SECs), Singh stressed that education should go beyond academics.

He noted that institutions must focus on shaping responsible individuals with strong moral values and a sense of responsibility towards society and the nation.

Vision for India’s future

Speaking about the role of youth, Singh said the 21st century presents both challenges and opportunities. Referring to India’s long-term goals under Narendra Modi, he emphasised the need for young minds to contribute towards building a developed nation by 2047.

“We require bright minds. We need brilliant daughters,” he said, encouraging students to actively participate in nation-building efforts.

Campus safety measures

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted steps being taken to improve campus safety, including the installation of CCTV cameras across university premises to ensure a secure environment for students.

Objective of the initiative

Rani Abbi, who moderated the session, said the programme is designed to give students a direct channel to voice their opinions and interact with the Vice-Chancellor.

Conclusion

The “Coffee with VC” initiative reflects Delhi University’s efforts to foster open dialogue and student participation in decision-making. By bridging the gap between administration and students, the university aims to create a more inclusive and responsive academic environment.
