Mangaluru: Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) celebrated Ethnic Day as part of a grand triple festivity marking Teachers’ Day, Onam, and Eid-e-Milad. Students from the educational units of FMCI across Kanakanady, Deralakatte, and Thumbay campuses came together for a vibrant festival-themed event that celebrated diversity, cultural harmony, and student creativity.
Festive procession and cultural performances
The event began with a lively procession from the Carmel Hostel Grounds. Students displayed the colours and vibrancy of Indian festivals through music, dance, and traditional instruments like dhol and chende. Faculty members, priests, and administrators joined the parade, celebrating unity and festivity.
At the Father Muller Convention Centre, the celebrations continued with performances such as the Pili Vesha dance, Chende drumming, and a prayer dance by students of the College of Speech and Hearing. The ceremonial inaugural featured symbolic pouring of colours, spices, and lentils, signifying prosperity and gratitude.
Teachers’ Day celebration
Teachers’ Day was marked by heartfelt song presentations from allied health sciences colleges, reminding everyone of the bond between students and teachers. Dr Blany Dsouza, Professor of Homoeopathy Pharmacy, delivered the Teachers’ Day address, acknowledging teachers’ tireless efforts.
Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of FMCI, in his presidential address, praised the faculty’s silent dedication and celebrated the festive occasion as a reflection of India’s diversity and inter-religious harmony. He extended his blessings to the students and encouraged them to remain committed to their goals.
