Mangaluru: The 31st batch of the undergraduate physiotherapy course for the academic year 2025–2026 was inaugurated at Father Muller College of Physiotherapy, a unit of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI), on Wednesday, October 8, at the Father Muller Convention Centre, Kankanady, Mangaluru.
A Grand Opening Ceremony
The chief guest for the ceremony was Dr U.T. Ifthikar Ali, Chairman of the Karnataka State Allied and Healthcare Council. The programme was presided over by Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of FMCI. Other dignitaries present included Dr Michael Santhumayor, Administrator, and Prof Cherishma D’Silva (PT), Principal, along with Prof Leah Mohandas, First-Year Course Coordinator.
The event commenced with a vibrant band procession welcoming the dignitaries, followed by a prayer song, lighting of the lamp, and a welcome address.
Inspiration from the Chief Guest
In his inaugural address, Dr U.T. Ifthikar Ali reflected on his humble beginnings, saying, “First of all, I am not a good speaker. We came from the grassroots level; we are common people.” Recalling his student life at Father Muller College in 1995, he spoke fondly of his experiences.
He highlighted the importance of humility and respect in professional life, stating, “Standing is not a profession; giving respect to your teachers shows your professionalism.”
Encouraging the new students, he urged them to stay joyful and spread positivity, adding that a physiotherapy conference would soon be organised at Father Muller College. He concluded his address by congratulating the newly admitted students and wishing them success in their academic pursuits.
Following his speech, Dr Ifthikar Ali was honoured with a memento, shawl, and floral bouquet by the management as a token of appreciation.
Director’s Message of Assurance and Encouragement
Addressing the gathering, Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo reassured the parents and students, saying, “There is no need for agitation or worry. You are safe here in Father Muller College.”
He also elaborated on the essence of physiotherapy, explaining, “The ability of empathy and mobility are most important in this profession. Your touch should be soft; you restart the patient’s life — it is both a great responsibility and a wonderful opportunity.”
Conclusion of the Ceremony
The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks and the singing of the college anthem, marking the beginning of a new academic journey for the 31st batch of budding physiotherapists at Father Muller College of Physiotherapy.
