Mangaluru: A state-level workshop titled “Hacking the Heart: A Workshop on Attitude Development among Gen Z Students” was held at Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, Deralakatte, on the 8th floor EMD Auditorium. The event was organised by the Department of Nursing Education and first-year postgraduate students of Yenepoya Nursing College.
Focus on attitude reprogramming
The workshop centred on shaping the mindset of Gen Z nursing students to enhance empathy and compassion in their professional practice. Chief Guest Dr Anice George, Professor & Head of Research & Collaborations at Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal, highlighted the importance of reprogramming students’ attitudes. She stressed the need for educators to adapt to the unique learning behaviours of today’s tech-savvy generation.
Importance of values in healthcare education
Dr Aswini Dutt R, Dean of Academics at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), served as the Guest of Honour. He emphasised the value of instilling the right mindset in healthcare students, noting that clinical skills alone are not enough — attitude and empathy are equally crucial in delivering quality care.
Leadership and organisation
Dr Leena K C, Principal of Yenepoya Nursing College, presided over the workshop and acknowledged the efforts of the organising team. Dr Priya Reshma Aranha, Organising Chairperson, delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the day-long event. Mrs Sharin Netal D’Souza, Organising Secretary, extended a heartfelt vote of thanks to the delegates and dignitaries.
Wide participation from across Karnataka
The workshop witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 100 delegates from various districts across Karnataka, making it a valuable platform for discussion, interaction, and development among nursing educators and students. The event succeeded in addressing one of the most pressing challenges in nursing education — aligning student attitudes with professional responsibilities.
