The third group of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi’s STEM Mentorship Program, which is designed for high school girls in Classes 9 and 11, has begun. The goal of the course is to encourage and equip young people to consider careers in STEM fields.
Out of over 200 nomination applications from various Delhi Government Schools, Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools (Delhi-NCR region), and private schools, the institute selected 100 promising candidates for further consideration. A thorough selection procedure resulted in the students’ selection.
The STEM Mentorship Program will unfold in three comprehensive phases. The “summer phase”, spanning from May 14-24, 2024, will feature a 9-day workshop. Participants will be taught about STEM domains through expert lectures, laboratory demonstrations, and hands-on problem-solving sessions. Additionally, a Maker Space workshop at IIT Delhi will provide students with hands-on experience in DIY projects.
From July to November 2024, the second phase, dubbed “At the School,” will take place once a month on Saturdays. The Sci-Tech Spins lecture series will be attended by the participants. Their educational experience will be enhanced by the interactions they have with students from IIT Delhi.
The program will conclude with lectures on STEM leadership, entrepreneurship, and interactions with successful IIT Delhi alumni during the “Winter phase” in January 2025.
Under the direction of IIT Delhi’s Office of Academic Outreach and New Initiatives, the first cohort of 10 schoolgirls began in December 2021, and the second batch of 32 schoolgirls successfully completed its program in June 2023.
