An Indian student studying in Canada has gone viral on social media after sharing a candid Reddit post titled “I regret moving to Canada”. In the post, the student highlighted three major struggles international students face abroad—dubious colleges, financial hardships, and mental health battles.

1. The college trap

The student called out private and low-ranking colleges, accusing them of charging steep fees while offering poor education. Professors show little interest, syllabi are outdated, and degrees hold minimal weight in the job market. Without “Canadian experience,” many students are left doing survival jobs like Uber or warehouse labor, all while sinking in tuition debt.

2. Financial exploitation

With skyrocketing rents, pricey groceries, and basic essentials, students are compelled to work long hours in low-wage jobs. Employers often exploit them, paying under-the-table illegal wages. “You either slog endlessly or go hungry. If you protest, they’ll replace you with another desperate student,” the post stated.

3. Mental health struggles

Beyond financial woes, the emotional strain is severe. The student lamented the absence of family, friends, and cultural ties, describing a life of isolation and relentless work. Building genuine friendships is difficult, and many quietly endure depression and loneliness.

The student concluded by urging others: “India is rising. Work smart, stay home, and build your future without sacrificing mental health or dignity. The West’s promises are hollow—don’t get trapped.”
