In a pioneering move, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has launched a mobile-based AI face authentication system to curb impersonation during recruitment exams. This breakthrough was put into action during a four-day hiring test for posts such as computer operators in the Legislative Council.
Here’s how it worked: As candidates entered the exam venue, the system snapped their photos via a mobile app. These images were instantly matched with the photographs submitted during application, using real-time verification linked to KEA’s servers. The process swiftly confirmed each candidate’s identity.
KEA Executive Director H Prasanna highlighted that the AI mechanism proved highly effective, ensuring only legitimate candidates could take the test. On Saturday, 74 candidates sat for the morning session and 267 in the afternoon, all successfully verified through the system. Following the success, KEA now plans to deploy this AI tool for other future exams.
In another move to bolster transparency, KEA made OMR answer sheets publicly accessible on its website right after the exam concluded. This step allows both candidates and the public to review the sheets, promoting openness and minimizing chances of malpractice.
With these tech-driven measures, KEA is setting a new benchmark in examination integrity.
