St Aloysius Pre-University College, Mangaluru, reaffirmed its dedication to nurturing socially responsible youth with the inauguration of the Centre for Social Concern (CSC) for the academic year. The centre aims to promote outreach initiatives that instil compassion, creativity, and commitment in students.
Launch ceremony highlights community and creativity
The inaugural event was attended by Principal Rev. Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ; alumna and former CSC president Ms Venus Wilfred Lewis; Vice Principal (Commerce & Arts) Ms Vilma Fernandes; Deans Ms Kiran Shetty and Mr Inas Dais; and members of the Student Council. A solemn prayer service and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp marked the start of the event.
CSC President Adwaith C. K welcomed the gathering, after which the CSC logo was officially unveiled. Designed by II PU student Ashlyne Vismaya Lobo, the logo symbolises the CSC’s renewed identity. Ashlyne was felicitated for her artistic contribution.
Inspiring address and personal stories
Rev. Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, in his address, urged students to move beyond the pursuit of personal success and instead dedicate their lives to helping and caring for others. He emphasised the need for purposeful living grounded in empathy.
A video showcasing CSC’s past and future initiatives was presented, followed by a vibrant and humorous interactive session by Ms Venus Wilfred Lewis. Drawing on her own experiences, she spoke about the challenges of balancing academics with social responsibility, ultimately achieving academic excellence.
Ms Venus also shared a powerful personal story that highlighted the struggles of the underprivileged, reinforcing CSC’s mission to cultivate empathy and action among youth. She was presented with a memento as a gesture of appreciation.
Community support and participation
CSC staff coordinators—Ms Srilatha R Shenoy, Ms Chaithra V Bhaktha, Mr James Cyprian D’Souza, Ms Josma Nithisha Lobo, Ms Debasmita Mukherjee, Ms Snehal Peris, and Ms Karthika Nair—were present at the event. II PU student Janhavi Jasmine Dsouza compered the programme, while CSC Secretary Aanchal Peris delivered the vote of thanks.
The inauguration set the tone for a year of meaningful engagement and student-led service activities, underscoring the college’s commitment to holistic education that reaches beyond the classroom.
