NIT Karnataka, Surathkal Takes a Pledge for a Drug-Free India

Mangaluru: As directed by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, collaborated with students, faculty, and staff to take the Drug Free India pledge on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking today at the NITK campus.

The theme for this year, “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention,” highlights the significance of evidence-based strategies in combating drug abuse and trafficking.

Drug problems have global ramifications, impacting both individuals battling addiction and communities disrupted by drug trafficking and related crime.

While addressing the gathering, Dean Student Welfare Prof. A C Hegde emphasized the importance of early intervention and community-driven initiatives.

“Preventive measures are essential, and we are committed to fostering healthier lifestyles,” said Prof. Hegde.

The pledge ceremony saw participation from students, Dean of Faculty Welfare Prof. Laxminidhi, the Registrar, Deans of Planning & Development and Research & Consultancy, administrative heads, faculty, and staff.
