Over 17,000 students absent on first day of exams in Telangana
The first day of the Telangana intermediate public examinations saw 17,285 first-year students skipping the Second Language Paper-I. Out of 5,14,184 registered candidates, only 4,96,899 appeared for the exam. The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TG BIE) conducted the exam smoothly across 1,532 centres, with two malpractice cases reported in Hanamkonda and Warangal districts.
Some students in Hyderabad complained about inadequate facilities in exam halls, including the absence of wall clocks. Parents expressed concerns, stating that students were not allowed to wear normal wristwatches, making time management difficult. However, TG BIE officials clarified that bells were rung every 30 minutes to help students track time.
Though the official last reporting time was 8:45 AM, students were given a five-minute grace period to enter the exam halls. This year, hall tickets included QR codes with centre locations to help students navigate their venues.
Following the examination, traffic congestion was reported in multiple parts of Hyderabad as students returned home. Areas such as Kukatpally Y-Junction to JNTU-Hyderabad experienced bumper-to-bumper traffic due to the heavy rush of students and vehicles.
