Shivamogga: The reopening of government schools in Shivamogga district was marked with a festive spirit on Friday, as students were cheerfully welcomed with flowers by teachers and headmasters.
In line with the Education Department’s directive to celebrate the reopening like a festival, schools were beautifully adorned with floral decorations, colorful rangolis, and freshly cleaned surroundings. Teachers, with support from School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC) members, enthusiastically decorated entrances, gates, and classrooms to greet the returning students.
Uniforms and textbooks were distributed on the first day, and some schools even offered sweets to make the occasion more joyful. At Puradal Higher Primary School, students were greeted with flowers and sweets by A Baburatna, Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, along with teachers and staff.
At Karnataka Public School in Anavatti and Higher Primary School in Moodi (Soraba), Soraba Tahsildar Manjula Hegdal and Block Education Officer Pushpa welcomed students with similar gestures. At Durgigudi Government Primary School, vibrant rangolis and flowers added to the charm of the celebrations.
Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) SR Manjunatha stated that both urban and rural schools were instructed to clean and decorate classrooms, kitchens, and staff rooms, and include sweets in the midday meals. He confirmed that 90% of uniforms and textbooks had been supplied and distribution was ongoing.
The Shivamogga district hosts 2,100 government and 400 aided schools, serving 1.10 lakh students in government institutions and 2.58 lakh overall.
