A new academic year begins with encouragement, values, and celebration

Mangaluru: Echoing the words of John F. Kennedy, “Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try,” St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, welcomed its incoming undergraduate students with an inspiring and ceremonious First-Year Student Assembly held over two days — June 23 for BCom and BBA students, and June 24 for BA, BSc, and BCA students.

Welcoming the Agnesian family

Held in a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere, the event marked the formal beginning of the academic year 2025–2026, bringing together enthusiastic students and their families. The programme aimed to foster a sense of belonging and lay the foundation for a journey filled with knowledge, community, and purpose.

The assembly commenced with a serene prayer service led by the College Choir and a graceful welcome dance by Ms Sneha and team, setting the tone for the event. Mrs Chethana, Dean of Commerce and Management, extended a heartfelt welcome to both parents and students, making them feel part of the growing Agnesian community.

Lighting the lamp of learning

The symbolic lighting of the lamp was conducted by the dignitaries, signifying a new beginning filled with knowledge, enlightenment, and promise.

Alumni connect and motivational stories

An engaging highlight of the morning was the Alumni Interaction featuring Ms Rhea Lilia Sequeira and Ms Privy Dsouza, both accomplished former students who shared their transformative journeys at St Agnes College. They inspired the new students to explore beyond academics, encouraging participation in co-curriculars and campus life.

Addressing values and vision

Principal Sr Dr M. Venissa A.C. delivered an address marked by wisdom and encouragement. She urged students to embrace the opportunities that college life offers and to pursue excellence in academics and character. Mrs Shanthi Nazareth, Dean of Administration, offered a comprehensive explanation of the institution’s core values, code of conduct, and expectations, reinforcing the importance of discipline and integrity.

Recognising academic excellence

The event also celebrated scholastic achievement through the Mother Veronica Merit Scholarships, awarded to 98 meritorious students who secured over 90% in their II PU board exams held in March 2025. This recognition underscored the college’s commitment to promoting academic excellence.

A promising start

The session concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks and the singing of the College Anthem, leaving the auditorium resonating with hope and determination. Students left feeling motivated, supported, and excited to begin their college journey.
