Mangaluru: St Aloysius College (Autonomous) celebrated its XVI Graduation Day 2026 with grandeur and academic pride, honouring the achievements of graduating students and recognising outstanding academic performers during a solemn convocation ceremony held recently.

The graduation ceremony witnessed the participation of students, parents, faculty members, dignitaries, and guests, marking an important milestone in the academic journey of the graduates.

This year, a total of 2,630 students graduated from the institution, while 91 rank holders were specially honoured for their academic excellence. The college also presented 16 special prizes to exceptional performers across various disciplines.

Ceremony marked by solemn academic traditions

The programme commenced with a solemn oath-taking ceremony led by Rev. Fr. Brian Pereira SJ.

The official declaration of the convocation was made by Rev. Fr. Dionysius Vaz SJ, President of Mangaluru Jesuit Educational Society (MJES) and Provincial of Karnataka Jesuit Province.

The college choir led the gathering in prayer, while the college band ceremonially escorted the dignitaries to the dais, adding grandeur and dignity to the occasion.

The ceremony reflected the institution’s longstanding Jesuit educational tradition rooted in academic excellence, discipline, leadership, and service to society.

Vice Chancellor encourages spirit of enquiry

The chief guest for the graduation ceremony was Prof. Sharath Ananthamurthy, Vice Chancellor of Kuvempu University.

Addressing the graduating students, Prof. Sharath encouraged them to carry forward the Aloysian spirit of learning, growth, and service in their personal and professional lives.

He emphasised that education in a technology-driven world must continue nurturing the spirit of enquiry and the ability to “learn how to learn.”

Prof. Sharath further appreciated St Aloysius College for its consistent efforts in promoting holistic and inquiry-based education.

Jesuit leaders urge students to serve society

In his address, Rev. Fr. Dionysius Vaz SJ urged students to pursue careers and vocations that align with their passion and purpose rather than merely participating in societal competition.

He encouraged the graduates to have faith in themselves, contribute positively towards society, and enrich the world with knowledge, compassion, and service.

Rev. Fr. Dionysius stressed the importance of using education not merely for personal advancement but also for social transformation and nation-building.

Principal highlights meaningful education

Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis SJ, Principal of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), welcomed the gathering and emphasised the importance of purposeful action and value-based education.

He reminded students that education must inspire responsibility, leadership, ethical conduct, and meaningful contribution towards society.

The Registrar of the college, Dr. Ronald Nazareth, presented the list of graduating students and recognised the outstanding achievers during the ceremony.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Vaishali Rai, who acknowledged the efforts of faculty members, students, organisers, and supporting staff in making the graduation ceremony memorable and successful.
