Mangaluru: St. Aloysius Pre-University College organised an Empowerment and Awareness Session for its first-year PU girl students under the aegis of the Nari Shakti Association (Women’s Forum) at Loyola Hall. The programme aimed to equip young women with the knowledge, confidence, and values needed to make informed decisions, ensure personal safety, and lead responsible lives.
The session was conducted by Ms. Jennifer Carlo, Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Yenepoya School of Allied Health Sciences, who addressed issues relevant to young women transitioning into college life.
Focus on self-worth and personal safety
Drawing on her expertise in clinical psychology, student counselling, and mental health, Ms. Jennifer Carlo encouraged students to value themselves, build self-confidence, and establish healthy personal boundaries.
She emphasised the importance of making informed decisions in personal relationships and interactions while maintaining self-respect and emotional well-being.
Highlighting safety in both physical and digital environments, she advised students to exercise caution while using social media and strongly discouraged them from sharing personal or private photographs online. She also encouraged students to seek timely guidance from parents, teachers, mentors, or other trusted adults whenever they encountered challenges or difficult situations.

Interactive session on responsible choices
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Kiran Shetty, Dean of Science, underscored the importance of discipline, responsible conduct, and personal integrity. He encouraged students to reflect on the insights shared during the session and apply them in their daily lives to achieve holistic growth and well-being.
The programme witnessed active student participation, with attendees engaging in discussions and interacting with the resource person on topics related to personal safety, emotional health, digital responsibility, and decision-making.
The session concluded on a positive note, leaving participants better equipped to navigate college life with confidence, resilience, and responsibility.
The programme was coordinated by Ms. Deepthi Rani M. K., Ms. Bhavyashree, and Ms. Amanda Reem Rodrigues of the Nari Shakti Association.
